Illinois Theatre Association – Mission Statement

It is the Mission of the Illinois Theatre Association to Advocate Theatre In Illinois through:

  1. Encouragement and facilitation of closer and better communication among professional, community, and educational theatres in Illinois.
  2. Provision of public information about the extent and variety of theatre in Illinois.
  3. Cooperation with state and federal agencies, and with regional and national theatre organizations in promoting recognition of and development of theatre programs at all levels.
  4. Maintenance and improvement of theatre production, teaching, and research at all levels in Illinois.
  5. Affirmation of the value of theatre in the lives of individuals.

Illinois Theatre Association – A Brief History

The Illinois Theatre Association began at a meeting of theatre-interested people from all parts of the state in Evanston on May 6, 1972. Incorporated as not-for-profit in 1973, ITA is a professional organization which has completed more than 25 years of programming, planned to achieve the following purposes:

  1. Encouragement and facilitation of closer and better communication among professional, community, and educational theatres in Illinois.
  2. Provision of public information about the extent and variety of theatre in Illinois.
  3. Cooperation with state and federal agencies, and with regional and national theatre organizations in promoting recognition of and development of theatre programs at all levels.
  4. Maintenance and improvement of theatre production, teaching and research at all levels in Illinois.
  5. Affirmation of the value of theatre in the lives of individuals.

Objectives and Measures

ITA Events Calendar FY 2004
The objectives for the year are to produce the following events. Results of each are measured by evaluation forms issued to those attending, by numbers who attend, by amount of income, by requests for program to be repeated, by letters responding after the event, by comments of specialists in the area of theatre performed, by numbers of adaptions/adoptions of programs, by numbers of individuals who register for further study in the field.
